Support
We need support—it is a wellness tool
We are in charge of our wellness, but we must cound on support from peers, family, friends, support groups, and health care professionals.
A supporter is a friend who:
- Cares about you and empathizes with you
- Affirms you and validates your experiences
- Accepts you as you are
- Listens to you and shares with you
- You can talk to about something
- Is an advocate for you
- Enjoys being with you
- Enjoys sharing fun and interesting activities
- Can help in decision making, sorting things out, and prioritizing
- Could be able to take over for you and keep you safe when you are not in control
- Could follow you predetermined plan and make decisions or take action on your behalf
- Helps you become aware of changes in yourself
